Der „Kurier“ bringt in seiner Samstags-Ausgabe einen exklusiven Einblick hinter die Kulissen der Facebook-Zentrale in Palo Alto.

„Die Mitarbeiter können selbst aussuchen, ob sie auf Mac oder auf PC arbeiten“, sagt Facebook-Manager Mark Kinsey. „Die Systemtechniker setzen eher auf Windows, die Leute, die die Seite designen, sind eher auf Apple.“ Verköstigt werden sie drei Mal täglich in der hauseigenen Kantine, in Pausen darf man hinter dem Haus Basketball spielen oder bei Schönwetter auf dem Flachdach grillen.

Der Arbeitstag beginnt für die meisten schon im Bus. Wie auch Google holt Facebook viele seiner Mitarbeiter mit Shuttlebussen in San Francisco ab und chauffiert sie ins 55 Kilometer entfernte Palo Alto. Die Mercedes-Transporter mit verspiegelten Scheiben und Ledergarnitur waren eine Zeit lang mit WLAN-Internet ausgerüstet. Weil aber nicht nur die Facebook-Mitarbeiter, sondern auch Fremde auf der Autobahn gratis mitsurften, ist man auf UMTS-Handy-Modems umgestiegen.
